One of those rare update things...

It has been the Long Weekend of Productivity over here. Nate had a couple days due to him, and we decided to make use of the time by catching up on some of the much overdue home projects. Pretty new baseboards have been installed in the living and dining room (a drastic improvement over the previous complete lack), the room's been rearranged in a way that works better, the attic access has been actually framed in (as lovely as the hole-in-sheetrock look was...), and the workshop has had the last exterior bits put up and mostly painted. There is still a bit of painting to do on the workshop (where the hot tub means brush-painting is a lot more convenient) and I'd like to do some general touchup around the house while I'm at it, but still... lots and lots accomplished.
Tomorrow was meant to be sewing goodness with Stasha while my mom watched Alex. Mom's long-term casual boyfriend ended up in the hospital with a gangrenous hernia (ewww) and so she's been with him and obviously wasn't up to it. So, I plan to try and get at least a few projects done on my own here at home. I've really been feeling the need to craft... both sewing, and to dig out all my scrapbooking supplies and work with those as well. With autumn coming on, my usual urges for parties and fancy food are just going to get more demanding, though I'm temporarily sated by the awesomeness of Alex's dinosaur party and the wicked fun of celebrating with
amara_m. But yes... just generally kicked into super high gear in regards to all things creative.
There is the promise of wonderful things in October as well... various Halloween and pumpkin-related shindigs, and of course, Nate and I will be celebrating our tenth anniversary this year. After much deliberation, we decided to take another trip to Las Vegas... there will be wonderful shows and comfy lodgings and other general fun and debauchery. I'm looking forward to checking out the sugar-free gourmet chocolatier... Nate brought me back some yummy things from when he was there for DefCon. All in all, it should be fantastic.
Most other areas of life are good at the moment; my mom's new chemotherapy and the up in her dose of prednisone means she's doing much, much better than she was for a bit. She's back to being able to watch Alex on her own (which means a lot to both of them) and has been doing much better in so many areas... we probably won't have to yank her licence now, and she's (with guidance/supervision) taking over some of her other responsibilities, like paying bills, etc... time will tell if it lasts, of course, but right now she's in a very good phase and we're all grateful for that.
Alex is back in school and loving it for the most part; he's got some issues they're working on (like, his imagination kicks in and he goes off to play on his own when he's bored or if something is too hard for him) but it's been a very beneficial environment for him as far as I can tell. He still has a ways to go before he catches up to the "normal" four-year-old, but he's doing really well, and we fully expect him to be on par with other students by the time kindergarten comes around.
Ha, I think that covers... most of it? I know I've been really awful about updating this year, so if I'm leaving anything out, just poke me and I'll try to get to it. I'm focusing on some self-improvement things right now... getting more organized, not dropping the ball on so much... doing better about keeping in touch with people who are far away, and just generally doing more to nurture and actively cultivate my relationships with friends both near and far.

Happy early 10th Anniversary! I hope you have a marvelous time in Vegas :)
And I'm very very glad to hear your mom is doing better. I was so worried for you, her, and the family. It's great that her and Alex can start spending time together again, and that she can start living an almost normal life. I'll keep her in my prayers that she continues to do well :)
Good to hear about Alex too. Everyone's doing well, things are going great - I'm so happy for you! *hugs* Nice to see an update from you, I'd been missing you here on lj!
Happy Anniversary . . .

I miss you too! I get so behind on updating, and I haven't been great about reading/commenting lately - sorry about that! Things have just been really busy for me, and I'm sure people understand, but well... you know how it is! I just need to get back on top of things and keep up with them... harder than it sounds. *hugs* Hope things are okay for you... I've been reading a little and know that you're having issues with some classes, but hopefully it'll be easy to straighten out.
