Yes, it's a fish post... aww come on, I haven't done one in a while!! Oh okay, I'll put a tag in.

Well, we start off with bad news. If you recall, the carpet was supposed to be installed on the 17th. So we put all the fish in various aquarium type containers for a couple days. When the date got pushed back, we just kept them in the temporary homes for the extra week plus. I've done a couple water changes, etc, but yesterday evening I found one of the clown loaches dead. Checking the water revealed very very high levels of ammonia & nitrite. I feel terribly guilty because it could have been prevented if I'd tested, but I had *just* done a water change very recently. Anyhow, all the other tanks are normal, and we did an emergency move of the remaining three loaches into the big tank. It was just set up that day and I would have preferred a full 24 hours before the move, but figured it was better than their current environment. All appear to be doing well now.

Anyhow, since my betta has been in his temp tank, he's been much happier... gone back to making bubble nests and just generally seemed happier. So I thought, maybe I shouldn't force him to be part of the big tank. I can remove the divider and that will give the rest of the community more space (don't think he appreciated it anyhow - the high vertical dimension seemed to confuse him) and all the fish will be happier. Talked to Nate, and that's just what we did.

But now we only had one clown loach. They really like to be in at least small groups, so we went to the pet store to get 2 new ones and also some replacement filters etc that we needed. I had been thinking more and more about getting another betta since Icthulu doesn't even seem to realize the ghost shrimp is there, prefering the mirror. Nate said I could get another one so I found a poor little guy (Petco bettas are really the unhappiest little things, but alot closer than Connie's for a weeknight) who is very pale but looks to be mostly dark blue. Nate also found a really nice betta tank... most of the tanks for multiple bettas are just so small, I really wanted Icthulhu to have the same space he does in the temp tank. But this one is very nice, comes with glass dividers to section it into four decent betta spaces. Right now I have it divided into three - new guy (who I need to name) is in the first quarter, second quarter is empty, and then Icthulhu will go in the remaining half. I'm not sure yet if I want to put the shrimp in with Icthy or in the empty slot. I kinda want another shrimp for the new one. We'll see.

We also got two new clown loaches... small little ones! They are adorable and are getting along well with the larger one in our tank. Got a battery powered siphon/vacuum dealy... much nicer than the suck-to-get-started one! Nate is going to take the old one in for the office tank. He's taking the five gall the loaches were in with him tomorrow so it can start getting set up. Then he and Bill (coworker) are going to choose fish prolly next week I think.

Anyway, got new guy to eat a little of the flake food Icthulhu won't touch... whee! Hopefully this betta will not be as picky. Need to take piccies of him to post up.

Marbled Bettas

Two types of Marbles exist, the "Traditional Marble" (or Piebald) which is a dark bodied fish with a white head or face, and the newer "Colored Marble" which may have many other colors than the Black/Flesh/White combination.

Maybe that's what yours is?

I looked mine up and I think the color is called "cellophane"... there's a "clear" too, but the cellophane has iridescence.

Amy, who's been looking at websites with very pretty bettas.

Me too!

Actually, I was just getting sad because I must have bought too small of a tank-thingy. It's one of those marketed for bettas, but... now I feel sad for them. I almost bought a 1 gal tank and now I wish I had, though then I would have only been able to have one betta.

Where do you find information on what animals can live with bettas? I'd like to get a plant and maybe a small snail for each side. And now I'm all worried about the water being too cold. *sighs*

I never should have gotten fish.
