Life has been a crazy crazy bundle of good things lately. I am a happy (but tired) Amy.

Kat & John arrived Thursday! We met up at the airport easily (probably more through chance than anything else) and were in and out quickly and on the way home. Thursday is Farmer's Market here, so we walked down and got some fresh produce and flowers and other things, and then had dinner out in the backyard - about a bajillion different things, but it was all yummy :) It's been wonderful to see them - lots of talking and joking and catching up and teasing. John has been quite willing to be an Alex Jungle Gym, which quickly made him a favorite. Went out for a noonish breakfast on Friday (Baker's Square), and then eventually headed into SF. Luckily Katlyn was willing to chauffeur us all, since I'm not that keen on driving in the city if I can avoid it.

We had a very nice time wandering the Japanese Tea Gardens... the landscaping is just always spectacular, and it was a gorgeous day for it. Very peaceful, if a few more people there than we would have liked. I got Alex some grape gummis, mistakenly thinking they might be on a par with fruit snacks... let me tell you, an almost-three-year-old who's had some fortune & sesame cookies and then a few gummi candies is like.... metaphors fail me. He was quite literally running circles around us for quite a time after. Eventually the energy faded and we were ready to head out... decided to come back home rather than do anything else in the city that day, with Kat & John planning to make a return trip to do Chinatown and such. Turned out to be Matt's birthday - Oh! Happy Birthday Matt! - and he wanted to get together with them, so it ended up working out well. We had some pizza and then they headed out for that and we headed to bed.

Saturday was my family get-together to meet my cousin's new baby girl, Amelia. Did some running around in the morning to pick up something cute and appropriately ridiculously frilly and girly - ended up with an adorable white dress/bloomers/hat outfit, with red smocking and embroidered heart-cherries and red/white gingham accents... oh, no, I don't want a little girl, not at ALL! Just threw it into a white box with some white tissue paper and put some sheer red ribbon around it - not very time consuming, but it did look pretty in a simple way. Doodled some of the heart-cherries on the card's envelope, and that helped it look sweet. Nate made belgian waffles (yum!!) and I sliced up some of the leftover strawberries to toss on them, so breakfast was pretty yummy.

Off to see Amelia! Alex resisted napping like a fiend (he's been doing that lately) and ended up just falling asleep as Nate and I arrived at the restaurant for the party (my cousin's husband is the manager, so we frequently use the party room for family get togethers). Nate was fantastic (as always!) and hung out in the car so he could get a half hour or so of snoozing in. Even though he didn't get much rest, he wasn't cranky at all... he generally loves seeing Justice anyhow, since Justice has not only Thomas stuff, but a kajillion toys from the Cars movie. Alex's favorite is always the tractor, which he knocks on its back like in the movie. Heh - I can only hope that he doesn't ever graduate to cow-tipping, as I have more than enough white-trasher-than-thou fodder. Surprisingly nothing new from Saturday though! Anyhow, we had a wonderful time, and there was much fun, but it was pretty fast-paced and so we were happy to come home and just relax for a while.

Today was Matt & Jen's shower! First of all, being plied with delicious food from the moment we walked in - very nice. Alex had once again resisted sleep until shortly before arrival, but he woke up and was quite well behaved. He did spend much of the shower running around and playing (Nate kept up with him for the most part, though I did take a few turns myself), and had a grand time - I was worried it wouldn't be much fun for him, but it was a very kid-friendly atmosphere, with another little one wandering around. Surprisingly non-goth, so I didn't have to feel bad about my decidedly twee baby shower giftwrapping, as it fit right in. We'd gotten them a baby wipes warmer and a cute ruffly/lacy tank top and pants set (in black, bien sur), and they seemed to be genuinely pleased. :::hopes so:::

And now we are back. And I think we could both use a day of vegging and sleeping to recover from all the excitement, but it's been a wonderful time. We've yet to make a final decision on what we're doing for 4th of July, but we are both looking forward to Nate having the day off.

Wow! You guys were busy.
I am glad you had a good time. Sorry my mom tried to stuff you to death. It is annoying. I guess it is better then starving.
I love the black outfit you picked out! The size is perfect too. Odelle will appreciate the wipes warmer this winter when she has a cold butt.
Tell Alex that we are keeping one of his green trains safe at our house and we will give it to him next time we see you guys.
Maybe we can hook up on the 4th to see the fireworks or something. We have no idea what to do.
