Feb. 12th, 2006 01:51 pmHad a completely wonderful time last night at one of the local wineries.
We decided to do romantic things for Valentine's day this year (as opposed to buying gifts), especially since Livermore has so many wonderful places and events. Alexander went to grandma's for the night, and Nate and I drove out to enjoy a lovely four course meal to the accompaniment of a cellist and violinist. Our candlelit table was just outside the archway to the nook they were playing in, which was lovely.
Appetizer course was a duo of smoked duck and ahi tuna carpaccio. I'm not usually much for fish, so was pleasantly surprised to like the smoky taste of the tuna. Second course was salad, butter lettuce with dried cranberries, spiced walnuts, and herbed chevre dressed in their pomegranate vinaigrette. Also very yummy although I had been hoping for a heavier taste of pomegranate in the dressing... I may try to make some of my own next autumn when my pomegranates are ripe. For dinner, Nate had grilled halibut with mango salsa served over a wild rice pilaf with grilled veggies, and I had a smoked chicken/snap pea/mushroom angelhair pasta in saffron cream which was ohmygod so yummy. And I have leftovers which I think are going to be lunch in a moment. I very much need to try making it myself at some point. Dessert was a slice of triple chocolate decadence, a slice of lavendar pear tart, and a scoop of delicious candied hazelnut ice cream for us to share, and a glass of their Mostelle, a blended red dessert wine which we may need to pick up a bottle of. I took home my red rose and added it to a vase of it's brethren before settling down for footrubs by the fire (yes, I do have the most wonderful romantic husband in the world). All in all, just a wonderfully fulfilling evening with my beloved. And on Valentine's day proper, we'll be going on a horse-drawn carriage ride, enjoying champagne and chocolate while we tour the new picturesque downtown, and bringing home yet another red rose to remember it by. ::is giddy with all the love::
