Fabulous weekend, really. I've been wanting to make us all matching fleecy pajamas to wear Xmas Eve/morning, and I went and got the fabric for them (a soft blue and white plaid with threads of navy), so I'm very excited about that. Saturday, Tom and Leslay came over for dinner, which was lots of fun. Alexander was at grandma's, so we got to have a nice grown-up evening. Appetizer was a baked brie with french bread, and I made Karen's brandied cranberries to accompany, which all turned out very well. And I got to use my cute french appetizer plates, and the incredibly darling little corset/dressform cheese knives that [livejournal.com profile] katlyn got me for my birthday. I had originally been planning on making the tea-smoked duck breast from my lavendar cookbook, but between the weather and the time, outdoor smoking wasn't in the cards, and I decided to make the lavendar and thyme seasoned chicken breasts recipe instead, which calls for a gorgeous champagne sauce and yummy mushrooms and shallots. Incredibly yummy - I'll definitely be looking for an excuse to make it again soon. And yummy skinny green beans and the herb-attacked new potatos I like to make. I thought about making a tricksy dessert but didn't want to go overkill on the making-things-I've-never-made-before, so Nate just picked up a chocolate turtle cake and some little raspberry chocolate tart things from the store. We were going to finally try our ice wine, but T & L brought a lovely wine for dinner and so we ended up saving it for another time. And there was Belgian-friend-rule Uno, and lots of lovely chatter, and funny stories, and mocking of the husbands, and pampering of the kitties, and on and on until we were all fighting the sleepiness whereupon they had to leave while they were still safe to drive.

Sunday involved sleeping in until almost noon, then getting coffee and muffin goodness from the new nearby Peet's Coffee that opened up. We went by Target for two things (a birthday card and a xmas tree stand) and of course ended up an hour later with a cartful of things that we just had to have - Miss Stasha can relate to the ev0l that is Target. We managed to get our Christmas tree and get it home and set up, then we spend much time looking for the angel which is nowhere to be found, and completely forgot to add the water. Finally we gave up on the angel and needed to go pick up our adorable little boy so we could all head over to Karl & Karen's for Nate's dad's birthday dinner. Alex was a doll for the most part... he seems to be getting over some of his clinginess, and mingled well with K & K, and Cassie and Mick and Oma and Eddie. Oma and I completely schooled Nate and Karl at hands and feet. Karen made really yummy enchiladas and stuff for chicken soft tacos, and then a black forest cake with whip cream from scratch, and it was all yummy deliciousness, and everyone was happy except for Oma who just has to be all passive agressive. But it was fine, because we all know that's just how she is.

So yay! There is still much fun holiday stuff to plan. I am really missing Miss Stasha, and want to get together for crafty goodness and girl talk. We want to do a little get-together here with chestnut roasting and gleuwine, and depending on how many people can make it, maybe some other fun things to nibble. We'll want to get together with Mike and Shannon to look at Christmas lights. Next Sunday is the Littlefield family ornament exchange (Eeee! yay!) - ornaments have been purchased but I need to wrap them still. I also have an idea for a cute ornament project to make people. And of course there will be the baking and miscellaneous with my mom and maybe Morgan, and since she keeps cancelling our Mother's Day Kahlua making, we'll be making some of that this year too. This month is just full of wonderfulness. And I want to get something done with my hair this week, and do some xmas shopping, and decorate the tree, and get some family portraits done and have Alexander sit with Santa. Hee! I sprinkle everyone with happiness and friends and family and other fun stuff.

"tea-smoked duck breast"? "lavendar and thyme seasoned chicken breasts"? "champagne sauce and yummy mushrooms and shallots"??

And I thought I was doing well with my pumpkin chicken. I think I'll just give up cooking. ;)
