Oct. 13th, 2005 11:18 amLast night, I dreamed I lived in a big open houseparty kind of house. In the upstairs bathroom, there was a laundry sink that had been made into a pond, with watercress and some purple flowering thing with floating leaves, and tiny little fishes in brown and gold and white, and little frogs that would comfortably fit on a fingernail. Of course, there was actually another sink for handwashing and such, and a miriad of guest toothbrushes.
Some of you may remember my discovery of soft squishy little socks that are clearly way too comfortable to be practical. Autumn is traditionally marked by Amy's Return to Sock-Wearing, made sweeter this year by last winter's discovery and my subsequent stocking up at Target. Today's pie-for-feet are a fluffy cream, and ever so much more enjoyable by the gleeful certainty that I probably won't put on shoes at all today. I feel guilty that those of you who work can't share in it, but not guilty enough to tamp down my own shoe-free joy.
In baby news: Pretty sure we're getting a new tooth. Alex is exhibiting all sorts of strange crankiness which seems to herald teething. He's still a little sweetheart most of the day, but it's punctuated by sudden tantrums for no apparent reason. He's very much moving away from being fed baby food and wanting to feed himself. He's not so into the use of utensils, so that means lots of finger foods. He can stand on his own for a few seconds at a time, especially if he's distracted by a toy and doesn't realize he's doing it. Still holding a hand or furniture for walking; we have gotten him to take a couple steps on his own, but he either doesn't realize he can or doesn't want to - he still scoots or crawls and then stands back up to travel short distances alone. He's getting more interested in toys and how they're meant to be played with. Loves bathtime. Really gets a kick out of us chasing him or him "chasing" us. Not very vocal - he's cut down almost completely on the "Mama" which kinda makes me sad, but it makes sense since he's focusing so much on learning other things.
