When I put him in his swing, he doesn't cry.
But he doesn't smile, either, just looks up at me as I press and turn, creating rocking and melodies where there was nothing before, and his eyes say to me,
"You are my world"
and I see them follow me as I walk away, tracing my path until I am hidden from view, and they say,
"You are my world. Where are you going, and why do you leave me?"
and I know that he's clean and fed and knows nothing of pain or neglect, but it still rends my heart to see that look on his face.

Some days it's hard to get the dishes done and the laundry folded. But I know I need to, and when they're done, I go back and softly halt the curve of swing and pull him (from sleep or reverie) back into my arms, and a smile brighter than sunshine tells me that all is forgiven.

::wipes a tear::

I know the feeling, but I could never have said it this beautifully.
