Girly Weekend with the Bride, Day 2
Aug. 22nd, 2005 08:10 amSaturday night my wrists were a bit owie... think I may have been holding the paddle wrong? Or perhaps that's just what I get for being out of shape. Luckily they were okay on Sunday morning.
I discovered that souffles need to be served fresh from the oven to prevent falling. Alas, even if I got up early Sunday morning to bake, I didn't see any way they could survive the drive. I do feel comfortable enough with Mrs Leslay to make a mess in her kitchen, but not when she has lots of guests over. So no chocolate souffles. On the other hand, I *really* want to try making some, so I may have to invite someone over for dinner sometime soon. Anyhow, arrived and indulged in a piece of freshbaked banana-nut-chocchip bread with my mimosa and remembered just how much a bunch of women talk.
Time flew by and then we were all headed out to Kate's place in Walnut Creek for the bridal shower proper. Very swank little neighborhood, clearly the headhunting business is lucrative. Kate was a darling hostess (although not as impressive as some ladies I know). Food was yummy, everyone was friendly, the weather was lovely, and silence just didn't happen. Leslay got some lovely things in spite of asking for no gifts, and we did a fun little quiz game about her and Tom, which her childhood friend won. Dessert was opera cake (yumm!) and a lemon meringue tart. Ended up back at Tom & Leslay's and gave much love to the sweet doggies. Leslay, Tonya, and I stayed as the others gradually made their goodbyes, and eventually had dinner and watched a bizarre but funny kung fu satire that I didn't catch the name of. Very strange. Very interesting. Mix of Violent Femmes and the Bootcuts on the drive back home, and snuggling with my sweetheart to end a delightful weekend.
Home again home again, and looking forward to some time with my sweet little boy. Tomorrow my mom is supposed to visit and we're going to do his practice birthday cake which should be messy but fun. Birthday party at noon this coming Saturday, so I need to figure out who is coming and what kind of food we want to make. Tra la. Happy Monday!
