Some updating for you...

Thursday, I kidnapped Jay for the day, and we started digging the area for the pond. We found the water main unexpectedly. Luckily, we were able to get it turned off at the street relatively painlessly, and Nate came home early to take care of replacing the section of damaged pipe. Bah! However, we still had alot of daylight left after the repair, so we went down to Alden Lane nursery to get our free tomato plant (yay free stuff!) and glance at their water garden section. Nate hadn't ever been there (I always forget) and so we had fun looking around a bit. They didn't have much in the way of water plants though, so we just got the tomato and some pest control stuff.

Resumed our digging just slightly closer to the fence and the pond is roughly fitted. Today we'll be picking up sand and then we can level and install it. It's going to be partially aboveground, with an area built up around it with retaining wall blocks and filled in with dirt. Haven't decided what I want to plant there, but it will be some sort of low growing plant that won't mind being sat on.

Anyhow, yesterday I found out about a great deal (via Gardenweb, my all time favorite place to suck up information about plants) at Walmart, two waterlillies and two other pond plants for $14... Was even more pleased when I got to Walmart. One of the lillies is "Attraction" which I've heard great reviews about, then one is a white one, there is a pretty "Pretoria" canna with variegated leaves (Nate's been wanting a canna in the pond) and a gorgeous blackish purple iris ("Black Gamecock"). I am very pleased! The plants are currently residing in a container of water out back so they can begin growing. They look healthy - everything but the canna already had new growth poking up.

Nate was stuck working but after my Walmart shopping (I was very good and resisted getting anything other than what I came for), I headed out to meet up with him at his office. We grabbed some food and headed over to my mom's place. Jay's out camping, but my mom was there, along with my cousin Kristina and her three kids. Kristina has a bit of a past but has been trying to turn her life around and my mom invited her to move down here since she's got extra space. In fact, they'll mostly be living with Jay as my mom spends the majority of her time living with her SO Dave (he's closer to her work). The kids are all very precocious... part of that is the long drive, but I think part of it is the kids... feel kinda bad for Jay, he's going from having a sweet little bachelor pad to living with three very very sociable and excitable little ones.

Better wrap this up... need to finish changing the clocks (what daylight savings time??) and then head out for fun with S & D.
