Obsession...
Jul. 31st, 2002 10:19 am:::yawn:::
So, for those of you that know me, and many of those that don't, it soon becomes apparent that I am an easily amused sort of person. Send something shiny or remotely interesting my way, and I immediately go "oooh!" and pursue it. I like this aspect, because it keeps me entertained, but it does make for a tricky lifestyle.
I become quickly enamored with alot of things I'm exposed to. This initial interest soon becomes infatuation, and my thoughts are filled with little hearts and flowers. The key is not to get too physical with the new hobby until whether I know it's true love, or just a crush.
So I immerse myself. I study everything I can about it, talking to people, reading books, perusing the web. I make grand discoveries, and grander plans. The planning stages alone are usually long and involved enough to keep me out of trouble for a good while. And I wait for time to tell.
If the new interest makes it this far, it's upgraded from 'trivial obsession' to 'hobby/obsession'.
This doesn't mean the relationship will last forever. Sadly, after spending several years with one, sometimes I find that we've grown away from each other, or have unresolvable incompatibilites that were only revealed after much time together.
Defunct obsessions are things like: playing a musical instrument (I suck, no really); becoming an architect/building my own home (cost prohibitive); iguanas (gave mine I better home); etc.
Dormant obsessions: scrapbooking (unorganized & lack of time); renaissance garb (other projects have priority); painting (lack of time/space); etc.
Current obsessions include sewing, cleaning with flylady.net, the fishies, the kittens, gardening, etc.
And my latest... between landscaping the yard in my head, and taking care of the fishes in reality, I've started liking the idea of a pond.
What is my point you ask?
:::yawn::: Was up til after three a.m. reading rec.ponds. Need to not do that sort of thing.
Oh and for Jay - we decided to put it on the side of the house - where the blackberry bushes & such are right now.
