More random stuff

Yesterday - went to house. Discovered gift from realtor. Awww - the barbeque we didn't really need, but the Home Depot gift cert will be coming in useful. They are such sweethearts. Anyway, house had been emptied of the left-behind stuff for the most part, which is mostly a good thing. There were a couple things I would have kept but most of it was junk. So I did a bit of putting away and cleaning but not a whole heck of a lot. Met Nate up at the carpet place - told them our wood choice, chose a back-up carpet choice since our first choice is probably back-ordered (and we really would like to get the carpet there before we move the furniture in). They will call us today to let us know for sure which carpet it's going to be - both are nice, our second choice is a little cheaper. So that's taken care of.

Headed back home, dropped off Nate's truck and grabbed a bite to eat, headed out to Changeling. It seems quite a few of our circle are thinking of leaving. I will be sad if this is the case, but of course want the best for them all. There is talk of virtual Changeling meetings, but... I'm just not sure how worthwhile that is. We shall see.

Must do some of the papers that are going to be due in the next month. I think in Psych I'm going to do it on lost/false memories. Then have the author thing for English... and eep. I need to find out when my next photography thing is due. Off I go to homework land.

Wow... the house stuff really seems to be coming along. I'm so happy for you!

What kind of wood/what color of carpet? What is your decorating style? I haven't gotten to see your house now, and I haven't gotten to see the new one either. What's the yard like? Hrm...

I think, with everyone moving/decorating, we should have roaming work parties where a group of us gets together and stays the weekend at one of our houses, and decorates/does yardwork/paints/whatever. Like one of those "Trading Spaces" shows or something... would be fun! (With a small group... like 5-6 max.) We could have a roving "decorating circle" instead of a sewing circle... I know I need assistance just with stupid stuff like hanging pictures (not that I can't hang pictures myself, just that I haven't had time/determination to do it.)

Could tie in with that decorating swap Rois and I were talking about.

Thanks! As far as decorating, we tend to go with traditional type stuff. Beige-y faux leather couch & loveseat. Coffee, side, and dining tables are all Queen Anne style in dark cherry/mahoganey finishes, armoire is QA but slightly lighter cherry. We're going with solid oak flooring in "java" in the living room - basically it's a lighter wood with alot of grain, and the grain matches the furniture wood. The walls are going to be a lighter shade of the couch beige, and then I'm going to sponge-paint with a pearlized paint with a touch of gold in it... I don't want a really dramatic look, just a subtle texturing with a hint of sheen. That's the living/dining area...

The bedrooms and hall are going to be carpetted in a very light cream - heh, I'm masochistic that way :) but we'll probably get some kind of oriental runner for the hallway. I wanted a really neutral carpet because I like to change the color scheme of the bedroom fairly often.

Honestly, at this point we're very boring. We're not supposed to make many changes at the four-plex we live in now, so I kind of just haven't been creative in a long time as far as decorating goes. I think once we get settled in I will start having more ideas as far as what I want to do with the windows, artwork, etc.

I think a decorating circle sounds fantastic! But then I generally go for things like that anyway :) I know that I'm going to need to do something with the kitchen and the bathroom at some point, but they're not on the take-care-of-immediately schedule. Hee, is this long enough for you?

I prefer a very neutral palette most of the time, too. Unfortunately, the livingroom in our new place is pretty dark and jumbled because the bookcases ended up going in there (we lost our guestroom/study.) I haven't put up a picture in the livingroom yet, because I have an awesome one of orchids that used to be in the old livingroom, and an awesome on of two greyhounds/whippets done in very dark colors/gold accents... the dog painting looks best the way it is now, but it just seems too dark. All the furniture is dark cherrywood (fake) or mahogany (also fake).

We have cream carpet, and it's a bitch. I like the way it looks, but we've bee there 3 months and tried to have a "no shoes house" and it already needs to be shampooed badly. *sighs*

I want to hang all my Japanese prints in the bathroom and do bamboo accents but haven't had the time. The bedroom is a horror because I haven't folded laundry and my new closet is -tiny- and we can't fit my chest of drawers in the room (it's an ugly hand-me-down that didn't work well anyway). It also has our futon frame and mattress leaning against the wall, because we haven't decided where to put it yet.

*sighs* I need help. I will gladly swap a weekend with you... painting? Yard cleaning? Whatever?
