Life has been incredibly, incredibly good lately. I am positively beaming with goodwill and gratitude most days, it must be sickening :P

When last we left our intrepid heroine, Halloween was just gearing up. Feeling inspired by the holiday and my rediscovered love of the kitchen, I decided to make a haunted gingerbread house for the rest of the family to eat. Alas, none of those premade kits could be found, and I was so not about to make one from scratch, so I got a Christmas-themed kit and defiled it with candy corn. See below!

Yeah, that place on the roof was gonna be cooler. Dang runny icing. Pretend there's a giant spider or gummi worms or something crawling out of it, okay? Or just focus on the awesome boarded up windows.

I'm sure you can totally tell that those are vampires in the windows by their widow's peaks, right? They make such a cute couple. Anyhow, Alex enjoyed munching on it when allowed, though he preferred the candy to the gingerbread, as is right and good. I also got him Target's little domokun Halloween countdown calendar, because it was too adorable not to bring home. It appears he's gotten over his aversion to gummi foods as he happily consumed many eyeballs, skulls, and entrails while waiting for the trick or treating goodness to begin.

It helped that we went to some awesome parties this year. Bob was celebrating his 59th birthday at Trudi's new apartment in the city, where there were mini-marshmallow blow guns (one of which CAME HOME WITH US) and a pinata and all kinds of fun things. That was followed immediately by [livejournal.com profile] rivestra and [livejournal.com profile] varkelton's *incredibly* fantastic shindig. So much love. Not only get I get to hang out with some of the amazingly cool girls I've gotten to know this year, but there was pumpkin carving, a HUGE pinata, and of course, mass destruction via sharp weapons, blunt/heavy weapons, and gigantic flamethrowers. I judged my pretty gothic-cross-carved jack-o-lantern too ornate to be sacrificed... it didn't make it to Halloween, however, and in retrospect I wish I'd sacrificed it to the fire. Ah well! There is always next year.

Further updates forthcoming....

I'm really glad you had fun at the party - although it's really [livejournal.com profile] rivestra's party - she just lets me invite people! I'll be seeing you at BASCON this weekend right?

Very clever use of the tools at hand to make a scary gingerbread house. I've never thought of doing one for halloween!

You were quite correct to credit Varkelton for the party - it's really a team effort (she's even got the t-shirt to prove it!) I'm glad you guys had a good time at our pumpkin fest and am sorry to hear your jack o'lantern didn't make it to Halloween. That's the problem when Halloween is a full week away from the party - none of the suckers really made it to Halloween.

*friends you back* Though Varkelton's right, I really don't post much.
