Yes, I'm only now catching up, but a late entry is better than no entry, right?

The week beforehand was a little crazy with dr's apptments and such, but my mom and I got a lot of the prep work done Friday night, and I came over early on Saturday to finish up. It was a crazy playland mix of pirates and Thomas and miscellaneous toys, but I think it looked pretty awesome. The cake people, in spite of numerous diagrams, measurements, and instructions, made the plainest birthday cake in existence - please see upper right corner. I managed to turn the teensy writing into something vaguely resembling ocean water, and added some more decor... seriously, I should have just made it myself in the first place, but I had hoped to avoid some of the work! Still, didn't it turn out very nicely?

Oh, and a section of the yard... this is the in-process-of-being-built grape arbor, with play kitchen, picnic table and couch seating area, whirly favor things, and pinata.

My mom's house was crazy full of people - I'm so glad I didn't have it at my house! Between Nate's relatives and the steady string of mine (Littlefields are almost never on time), it was nicely chaotic. And for a family gathering, there was very little white trashdom! Yeah, there was some, but come on! I was actually pretty amazed. Anyhow, here are a couple of the birthday boy opening gifts - he wasn't big on the making eye contact, being far more interested in the contents of the presents.

Considering the ages of the kids (plus little baby!), it was a wonderfully tear-free party. They all seemed to get along quite well, and with the exception of Lilly's klepto tendencies - ha, what a surprise! - were well-behaved. I was honestly expecting things to be a little less smooth. Here is Justice, Alex, and Lilly playing at one of the train tables and sharing cake. The little pirate mapped chinese food boxes held the party favors for the kids who attended.... I may have gone a little overboard, as they were impossible to close completely.

Anyhow, it was a great day, everyone seemed to genuinely have a good time, and I got lots of compliments - hee! I forget sometimes how much people compliment me when I wear a dress, so that was nice for the ego. I also had adorable shoes. Comments for dress and shoes exceeded questions about the ugly bruise on my arm (blood draw), so, win! By the time everyone finally headed out, though, I was one tired little bunny. My mom had graciously planned to keep Alex overnight anyhow, so I was able to go home to my lovely Bed of Doom and get some much-needed rest.
