My mom got Alex a pretty awesome play kitchen.

Except ours is in the red color scheme, which means our counter is red, and our wallpaper border is cherries instead of apples, and... other minor differences.

It's all kinds of interesting, and has lots of things that use batteries. It's higher tech than my kitchen probably. He loves it. It's over here for now, and will go back to her place in a few weeks.

Something got into our pond (probably a raccoon) and ate the orandas and knocked around the plants and such :( Very unhappys. The shubunkin is wily, though, and managed to survive without harm.

Nate finished the gate/fence stuff along both sides of the house, so now our backyard is all secure and stuff, and I don't have to be so right-on-top of Alex while he's playing. So that is much with the yay! I love my [livejournal.com profile] reboot_kid! That was earlier in the week, so Saturday we got rid of a lot of stuff (lumber scraps, etc) in the morning so it's all picked up and nice back there. Then we went to a party with a bunch of the Puzzle Pirate people, which was pretty cool! Playdate for the kids and the grownups!

Hosted by Rod (Ramrod) and Meagan (Redhead) - and their sons, Angus and Roddy. We'd met them before for a dismally rainy Scottish Games, which wasn't really all that successful of a get together. This time, we went to their place, which is a cute little original early 1950's house in San Mateo. Most of the action took place in their family room, with retro-to-match furnishings and a huge expanse of floorplace for all the Thomas stuff and other toys. Alex was in heaven - trains and other kids! Other guests included Heath (Vulgarbeard) and his girlfriend, Jennifer (doesn't play - gasp!), whom we'd met when we were over on the East Coast visiting family/friends. It was nice to see them again! They're out here enjoying the SF Bay Area on vacation, doing all kinds of touristy stuff, and were the main reason for the get together. Also included were Sarah (Ryanne) and Alex (Killermorgan) and their two boys, Aiden and George, and Ray (Killfist). All very cool people who I'd love to see again.

Now, those that know me know that I like to be a little bit show-offy when it comes to parties and such, so the request to bring chips and salsa was a bit of a let down. I countered by bringing pineapple mango salsa (with fresh cilantro and some of our homegrown golden cherry tomatoes) and a mix of regular and blue corn tortilla chips. Still not super-fancy, but colorful and "different" enough to satisfy me. :D I'm such a good guest! Alex was very well behaved too; sometimes when he's with Grammy, he doesn't always play nice with others. But he was (thankfully and probably luck-related...) actually the best behaved of the bunch, though they all did pretty good.

Sunday we went to the Alameda County Fair! Yay, fair! Took my mom as well, and spent most of the day in the kiddie section, enjoying the sight of my little boy on all the rides. Given that at his age, I was a seasoned veteran of all the kids' rides (what with being a carnie child in my toddler years), there was a lot of pride/joy at that. If he hadn't gotten tired, we might have stayed for some grown up fun as well, but it seemed better to leave so he could get a nap in.

Stuff I've Tried Recently and Loved:
1. Safeway's Two-Bite Scones - closest things to decent scones I've found in a shop. The orange cranberry ones were my first, and are way too yummy. The caramel toffee ones are a bit on the sweet side, but are nice to go with coffee. Hee. I am bashfully loving my new extra-yuppy Safeway, actually. The new meat counter has all kinds of gourmet ready-to-cook stuff, like chicken breasts seasoned and stuffed with asparagus and cheddar, stuff like that. Very nice for those nights where I've forgotten to prepare/thaw stuff and have no idea what to do for dinner.

2. The cherry pomegranate Crystal Light. Seriously, I heart it. Such a better option than black cherry koolaid, which is what I usually want on hot summer days.

3. Haagen-Daaz Cinnamon Dulce de Leche ice cream. Seriously, this stuff is so so yummy. I've actually been really into stuff that has melty cinnamon lately. Nate brought home this apple pie thing that was fantastic a while back. It would go perfect with the ice cream, but the ice cream is yummeh on its own too. Yeah.

Our [livejournal.com profile] katlyn is coming!!! Katlyn and John get here tomorrow, and I get them for two whole days, plus the baby shower (for Matt & Jenn, on Sunday)! Our house has a lot of squee going on. I've been trying to get Alex to say "Auntie Katlyn" but I'm not sure it's gonna happen. He's also been resisting learning to put his arms out and say "braaaaainsss" which is disappointing. He's very good at saying "nana" until you give him a banana, but then he doesn't want to eat it, and just gives it back to you later. Bah, children.

Okay, enough blather... love you all! Will try to update more often!
