Happy things... because why dwell on the negative?

This time of year is really nice. The hot, hard hand of summer has not yet descended, which means everywhere outside is full of gorgeous color and sun-dappled loveliness. I've got roses by the score, everything from velvet-dark black-red buds to sweet smelling white roses shedding heavy, silken petals, to brash, colorful blossoms as big as my baby's head... plus all the other flowery goodness. Promises of tomatoes and cherries and raspberries later this summer (still not having much faith in the peaches, though they may surprise me) and snapping up the sugar snap peas before the sun notices them and flash-fries them to a champagne shadow of their tendril-y selves.

Maywine was fantastic and I'm definitely making it next year. [livejournal.com profile] loolookitty came out for my smaller-than-planned gathering of fangirls, which made for much happy awesomeness. Yay, socializing! And there has been Mike-Shannon-Chloe-Trudy-Chris visiting as well, which is nice because aww, family. And there shall be some rockin' insanity for Ryan's birthday, which is family and friends and then some... hee! I have to figure out what I want to make for that, food wise.

As Ryan gets older and more mobile, we're seeing some signs of jealousy from Alex... wanting to take Ry's toys to play with, wanting him to go away when he's playing... but still lots of love and excellent big-brother-ness. His swim class term is up this month, and we're gonna take a break from that for a while; he's not a polished swimmer, but he's safe in the water and has enough of the basics that I feel confident taking him in a pool and teaching him myself... if we had a pool. We haven't yet decided what activity to give him next... considering maybe a sport (for team-playerness and other such things), martial arts, or Tiger Cub scouts. While I'm definitely not looking to be one of those moms whose life revolves around their kids' dozen extracurriculars, I think having a thing is good, and he's at a great age for benefiting from it and enjoying it as well.
