Saturday...
Feb. 23rd, 2008 11:01 pmToday was originally set aside for much girly goodness with birthday girl
missmorte but alas her party was cancelled for a variety of reasons. Having an unexpected amount of time on my hands, I agreed readily to spontaneous adventure-osity!
My Nate, he loves the snow. And I do too. And he's been missing it something fierce since he hasn't had a chance to go all winter, so after grabbing some coffee goodness, we packed up the child and a few necessities and headed out to Yosemite for lovely nature enjoyment and enjoyable driving (he likes that too, ya know). The afternoon was gorgeous - bright and clear, all the colors vibrant: cinnamon, sienna, green, chartreuse, all gilded and backed by pure white powdered sugar snow. Later in the day, we had not just snow on the ground, but gentle flurries of the stuff as well. Everything softened, the world fading to soft grey with hints of color, pale copper and verdigris, the occasional tint of yellow at the edges of branches, the promise of new growth. As evening drew close, it all drowned in that strange soft blue of California twilight, snow and sky and snowfall blurring together, the headlights bleeding pale gold on the road homeward, eventually all that was left as night and rain stole it all away in tiny parcels, the sky cobalt, indigo, starless midnight at last.
It was a good day - unexpected, both beautiful and peaceful, and lots of simple time together. In other news, I remain sick. I'm really used to having an awesome immune system, so I've been kind of um, whiny about it really. I keep trying to push myself to do more, because it feels like I'm not accomplishing anything and getting behind on everything, and I have to remind myself that just taking care of myself and the animals and the (also still sick) toddler is a lot of work. Have spent the last two days with various levels of not-voice-having, though today was better, so I'm hoping that means I'm on the mend. Otherwise, everything is pretty good at the moment, I think. :::is probably forgetting a billion things, but... no brain when sick::: So, that's it. Hope everyone else is having a wonderful weekend.
