Dec. 14th, 2006 11:48 amOh my, lots to cover. Let's see.
The pregnancy stuff: Mostly going well. I really like my new OB/GYN and her assistant, and I definitely have been feeling like I'm getting great care for me and the little one. This means trooping about to lots and lots of appointments and getting lots of tests done, but it's all worth it. I am, in fact, diabetic once again, and have been put on insulin which doesn't really thrill me, but it's a neccessary thing. I've never had a needle phobia, so while I can't say that it's fun, it falls more in the realm of "annoyance" than "hardship". Also taking care of it through diet & exercise, which is familiar from my last pregnancy and should also be helpful in making sure my weight gain is controlled. So, uh, yay.
Holiday party/ornament exchange: This went incredibly well for the most part. All the little children's got along well, and Alex was fairly gracious about sharing his toys/room with Justice and Lilly. Everyone got along well, the ornaments were lovely, and we ended up with pretty ones (although my cousin Amber completely sniped me and took away my Eiffel tower! It was perfect for me!). It was great to see everyone, and even though we have a small house, it wasn't too crazy-crowded. Crazy, yes, but that's my family :P I won't bother regaling you all with the stories about prison release mix-ups. And there was a ton... no, several tons... of yummy food, the majority of which I couldnt have, but still fantastic. No one wanted to take any leftovers home, so I ended up taking it all in to Nate's office on Monday for him and his coworkers to finish off. They love me there :)
Random: You know that old story of the grasshopper and the ant, where the ant works hard all summer saving up food for the winter, and the grasshopper has fun all summer, and then when winter comes, he starves or freezes or something, and dies, and you're supposed to learn to be dour and ant-like and hardworking? Yeah, well yesterday I saw a big chubby little grasshopper still happily alive on my artichoke plant. Moral of the story: Live in California, where you can have fun all year round and not worry about stupid blizzards and such.
Alex: Tantrums are steadily being replaced by a downcast face and sad sigh when he doesn't get what he wants... much more acceptable. I want to laugh when he does it, but I restrain myself because I know that at his age, it really is a terrible tragedy when mommy says no he can't have a candy cane. We've been watching Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, and have found his first scary monster: The Bumble! He gets kind of quiet/scared when the Bumble appears, and wants to be held, hides his face. It's kind of adorable, really, and I don't think it will be long before he gets over the fright... we look at the picture on the dvd box and name the characters, and I always say "Bumble" in a deep and "Terrible Oz" voice, which makes him laugh.
Tree: We got a live tree this year, which I'm pleased with. I'm not anti-xmas tree farms or anything (they're hardly cutting down the rainforest) but I like live trees/plants. Not sure if we'll plant it right away after xmas or just keep it in it's pot outside for a while. It looks lovely with our usual burgandy/white/gold theme. And I just adore slow-fade lights. Nate thinks I'm a weirdo, but I'd never seen them until a few years ago (only being familiar with ON or BLINKING as light options) and they just seem so much more elegant and beautiful.
Okay, I really must get started on the xmas cards before New Years... my mantle is full of messages of joy and cheer which need to be returned.
