Aug. 5th, 2005 11:11 amA more detailed report on our camping trip can be found in
reboot_kid's journal, but the highlights:
- The baby? Did not sleep well. Which means Nate and I also did not sleep well. So that's mostly why we didn't stay the whole week.
- I read an actual book! Do you have any idea how long it's been since I've been able to do that? I am thrilled. (It was Koontz's Frankenstein book 1 for those who are curious.)
- The lakes and forest were as beautiful as I'd remembered, and as cold at night as I'd forgotten.
- Bears are quiet eaters but huge litterbugs. And greedy things that can consume quite a lot.
- My mom risked Ranger ire to give me a bouquet of wildflowers for my recent birthday, paired with the new edition of the Western Sunset garden book and one about sprinklers/drip watering systems. Squee! And they got me chocolate cake with wooden match "candles" and sang me happy birthday. I feel really loved. My husband and family are the bestest.
In other news: Alexander can apparently nap through hammering. We got a new front door and it's soooo pretty. Leslay, who recently got married, is having the rockingest (retroactive) bridal shower events *ever*, and I am now looking forward to a weekend filled with such girly goodness as shoe shopping, doing lunch, sea kayaking, pedicures, mimosas, massages, and of course the *actual* shower. Her no-gifts policy has me wondering what fantastically delicious and pretentious bit(s) of yumminess I should make to bring instead. Because as we all know, I am a show-offy cook type person and love to do stuff like that, and it's the perfect excuse to. We have some new fishies and stuff because a customer of Nate's gave us a nice "thank you" gift certificate to the fishy store. They all did well while we were gone which is super wonderful. The cats did well too although I think they missed us... lots of loveyness from the kitties now that we are back. So, all in all, suddenly life is seeming pretty wonderful.
