Happy (belated) Bastille Day!!
Jul. 15th, 2003 12:29 amWhee!
The busy weekend meant much housework to do today. Got a wee bit done but much more left... once it gets hot enough I give up and come hide in the air conditioned office and just play on the computer.
Went out to celebrate the holiday with Leslay and Tom. Met up for dinner at the Left Bank in (?) Pleasant Hill. Tom got called to a last minute meeting and we weren't sure if he'd be able to join us after all. We were early for the reservations anyway, so we started chatting in the bar. I was a good girl (the only time all night) and just had water and a teeny sip of Nate's Louis Mal (lemonade and Aliz'e and... something else). Got a gorgeous table outside very close to the band (who were really really enjoyable btw) and began falling in love with the food. Fresh breads with butter, a delicious fondue of cheeses, and a helping of prawns in a garlic-citrus-pernod with little toasts.... mmmm heaven and just the appetizers so far. Leslay was just about to call Tom when he strolled over to the table - perfect timing! Our stalling with luscious tidbits worked :)
Leslay & I had menu ESP all evening... we eventually both settled on Poulet Grand-Me're (which I hadn't realized was HALF a chicken.... with a roasted head of garlic and roasted onion and carrots... yummm... and plenty leftover to bring home) and Nate got the pork with watercress and peaches... also lunch for tomorrow. I think Tom got Rotini but I couldn't swear to it.
And finally desserts... the meal itself was probably fairly health conscious but the appetizers and the desserts are going to kill me at weigh-in tomorrow. L. & I both got the Fondant au chocolat with capuccino ice cream, and we made Tom get the lemon tart in raspberry sauce (he never wants dessert, so we always strongarm him into ordering something we want to steal little bites of) and Nate got a superyummy cre'me brul'ee. Bah lack of correct accents. Delightful but silly me didn't think about it when I ordered coffee and now I'm not nearly as sleepy as I ought to be.
But as always, the company made the extraordinary dining experience pale... we have tentative plans for a beach picnic sometime this summer, including christening Nate's fondue set; a possibility of going sea kayaking (I'm scared but Leslay is a convincing argument); and they may be able to make it for the birthday party, which would be nice. They still haven't seen the house, and we need to remedy that.
