I had to snag this from [livejournal.com profile] ntiva's journal....

This is from Reader's Digest July 2003 page 24...

"Diamonds are forever. And now you can be too. LifeGem extracts carbon from the cremated remains of the dearly departed, and with heat and pressure makes them into real diamonds. 'It isn't in memory of a loved one, it is the loved one,' says CEO Greg Herro. You may wonder who wants a ring made from Grandpa, but LifeGem's business has been brisk, thanks to the popularity of cremation. In 2001, 27% of those who died were cremated, up from 18% a decade before, and loved ones want more than an urn of ashes on the mantel, says Herro. LifeGems aren't valuable on the diamond market, but they're still pricey. A .25 carat costs $2,300; a .75 carat costs a hefty $10,000."

I guess a diamond really *can* be your best friend.

Just ummm... wow. Who would've thought?
