Well my bebe, who talked me into doing the wings in pvc, is now saying he's not sure the boning I have planned will support them... I really wish he'd brought that up in the first place, but now I will have to patch-plan. I can either make the wings as planned and hope they work & he's just wrong, go back to the original plan of latex (which still might be too heavy, who knows), or come up with plan C. Hmm. If I don't make the wings out of the pvc, then I have way way way too much of it. I don't know if even I can use that many shiny black corset things - maybe I can make them as gifts :) I did pick up a teflon foot as instructed, and am hoping it goes relatively easily. I kind of wish I could practice first, but I'm not sure what I could possibly make that uses a little bit of pvc and is useful (I try not to just practice sew and throw it away - I like to make something neato.) I need to figure out wing dimensions and mock the darn things up, that way I know how much extra I have to work with. Okay - current plan: 1. Figure out the detail measurements and pattern for wings & corset. 2. Mock up wings with just cloth. 3. Make up corset with just cloth. 4. See if cloth wings are supportable by current boning option (big zip ties, possibly bundled) 5. If it seems feasible to make wings with pvc, measure out neccessary amount for wings and corset. 6. Figure out how much I have left - maybe I can make a nifty waist cincher with the black widow pattern I was thinking of. That would be good practice. Figure out if some kind of adhesive can be used in addition to the sewing. 7. After practicing on pvc, use it to cover wings & corset. 8. If black widow waist cincher turned out well, move on to spider web lace and rest of costume idea. 9. Have smashing new outfits to play in. Make Nate ooh and ahh appreciatively. Finish all other sewing projects. Conquer Earth.
