watching paint dry....
Apr. 16th, 2003 11:36 amah, it's Easter soon. This means that once again I am surprised (for no good reason) when my mom asks me to make her some handpainted blown eggs. Don't know why I'm surprised... it's supposed to be an annual tradition, although many years it just doesn't get done. This year, I have time and supplies! Happy easter painting for me!
Two eggs have been emptied and rinsed, and are now patiently but slowly drying in shades of lavendar and robin's-egg-blue. Once they dry, I can go over them again to touch up places where the paint got too thin or not applied (have to hold them somewhere). The motifs will be spring flowers... lily of the valley on the lavendar egg and a bearded iris on the blue one.
Speaking of flowers... (oh NO, you knew that was coming!) I have both the aforementioned blooming right now. Also still have some tulips still coming up, and the freesia hasn't stopped blooming just yet. Roses are budding everywhere but not quite blooming, as is one of my succulents and something I thought was a lovely ornamental grass. The "grass" put up flower stalks - I can tell they'll be yellow but that's all. And various other things I'm sure I've forgotten.
Our pond is partially installed... I wanted it to be half aboveground, for better sitting & viewing. So, it's buried as far as it can be in the ground. We still need to get blocks and build a little retaining wall around the above-ground portion, but for now, it does have water and parrot's feather and fake lily pads in it, and looks cute. The two real lillies are sending up pads nicely in the big rubbermaid container out back, the canna and iris are just getting used to the water, and the gorgeous fourleaf water clover I picked up last weekend is filling me with glee. I just love it.
